Reset the Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

If the tyre-pressure warning is on in your Skoda Octavia Mk4 (NX, 2020–present) after adjusting pressures or changing wheels, you need to store the current pressures as the new reference. On the Octavia that’s a single ‘SET’ in the infotainment. The light appearing after a top-up, a wheel swap or a cold night is normal and not a fault — it just means the stored baseline no longer matches what’s in the tyres, and you need to tell the car the current values are correct. Here’s how.

How the Octavia’s System Works

The Octavia’s tyre-pressure monitor works mainly from the ABS wheel-speed sensors — a softer tyre is fractionally smaller and turns slightly faster, and the car flags it. Because it’s comparing wheels, you must tell it the current pressures are correct after any change.

First, a Few Checks

  • Check the tyres cold — first thing, or after the car has stood a few hours — so the readings aren’t inflated by driving heat.
  • Set all four to the figures on the label in the driver’s door opening; the Octavia often lists an eco pressure and a higher full-load pair, so pick the one that matches your load.
  • Make sure the tyres are the right size and not unevenly worn — a wheel-speed system relies on the rolling radii being consistent.
  • Switch the ignition on; you don’t need the engine running to reach the menu.
  • Do the SET after you’ve finished adjusting, not before — it stores whatever is in the tyres at that moment.

How to Reset the Octavia Mk4 TPMS

  1. Set all four tyres to the correct pressure cold — the figures are on the label in the driver’s door opening (the Octavia often lists an eco and a full-load pair).
  2. With the ignition on, open the infotainment display.
  3. Select ‘Tyres’ (under the Car / vehicle-settings area).
  4. Press ‘SET’ — the system stores the current pressures and the warning resets.

If the Warning Stays On

  • Re-check every tyre, including the spare if it’s a monitored full-size wheel — one soft corner keeps the reference off.
  • Did you press SET after inflating? Storing before the pressures are right saves the wrong baseline; re-do it once they’re correct.
  • One tyre keeps dropping — look for a slow puncture; the system is doing its job.
  • Just fitted a different set of wheels? Store the new pressures with SET so the system relearns the current rolling radii.
  • Cold snap overnight can pull a tyre below spec — top up to the door-label figure and press SET again.
  • It flashes then stays on — a flashing TPMS light points to a system fault rather than low pressure; have it scanned.

Once It’s Done

With the pressures correct and SET pressed, the warning should clear and stay off. Because the Octavia learns from wheel speed, it can take a short drive at a steady pace for the system to settle on the new baseline. After that it only warns again if a tyre genuinely loses pressure — which is exactly the early puncture warning the system is there to give you.

Which pressure should I use — eco or full load?

Use the eco figure for everyday driving with a light load, and the higher full-load figure when the car is fully laden or running at sustained high speed. Both are on the door-opening label. Set the tyres to whichever matches how you’re travelling, then press SET.

Do I have to reset after every top-up?

Yes, ideally. Because the Octavia stores a reference and compares against it, any change to the pressures should be followed by a SET. It only takes a few seconds and stops the warning reappearing on your next cold morning.
